Backed by a brooding and nervy soundscape composed by Daniel’s father Michael, the film collides pop culture, terrorism and the ideology of contemporary rituals. The hypnotic slow-motion dance routine of a Michael Jackson figure is shattered when a Boeing 747 enters the frame.
As is typical of Askill’s work, the affect of this piece is immediate and accessible yet it welcomes deeper and more abstract readings.
Daniel caught up with Dazed Digital to discuss the project, amongst other things.

Collider's Lorin Askill has won a highly coveted Young Director Award. Lorin's web film Epic Fail, produced for DVV insurance, was acclaimed as the best in the non-Europe category last Wednesday in front of a full house at the Espace Mirimar in Cannes.
The film, which beautifully exposes the tragic attempt of a middle-aged insurance broker to make the grade with some youths, combines aesthetic and narrative superbly, a feat achieved by few web films in their plight to be more than a commercial.
The award marks Lorin's rise as a director on an international stage.

Occurring every two years, as its title commands, the Biennale is Australia's largest and most exciting visual arts event and is the fourth oldest biennale in the world (trailing Venice, Sao Paulo and Documenta).
