Like a motion capture shoot we built a small confined black space out with Friendly Fires invisible in black suits with sticky areas, so that when we filled the air with tiny white balls they became stuck to them as they performed. They were rendered first as skeleton stickmen with floating faces, then the pixel clouds progressively filled in surfaces. Taking out all the excess information and concentrating on their movement through this pseudo motion control meant we could focus on the performance dynamic of the band, especially Ed's great dance moves. On the day it was a juggle of manouvering the powerful fans while being heard over all the din they made and trying not to inhale too many of those little balls.
