Backtrack
Main Titles
We worked with director Michael Petroni to develop the titles for his debut film, Backtrack for See Pictures. The film features a scene where two psychologists study Brueghel's 1565 painting 'Winter Landscape with a Bird Trap' featuring a village scene in winter.
The painting became the basis for the title sequence and was used to build a spatial version of the Brueghel world by isolating all the painted elements. Every person, tree, fence etc. was painstakingly deep etched and the background recreated to allow our 3D camera to move freely between carefully placed pieces of typography.
The titles used a 1500s painting by Pieter Brueghel the Younger called 'Winter landscape with a bird trap'. The painting was chosen for its slightly sinister undertone and features within a scene in the film where it becomes an analogy for a plot element.

The painting was painstakingly separated into dozens of separate layer elements before it was recreated as a dimensional scene to allow a single-move 3D camera sequence.
