Opera Australia
Turandot
Collider Studio has created Opera Australia’s first ever digital avatar to appear in a live performance - Puccini’s Turandot, marking one of the most technically complex screen integrations undertaken for an Australian opera.
Conceived and designed by Collider director Andrew Thomas Huang and brought to life under the technical leadership of Glenn Stewart (Creative & Technical Director), the project involved nearly an hour of bespoke animation and exceptional technical precision. A key challenge was achieving seamless continuity while accommodating nightly variations in musical timing across four conductors during the Sydney season, ahead of the national tour. The result was so impactful that Opera Australia commissioned Collider to create a trailer and additional marketing materials featuring the avatar, launching this week, as the production heads toward a predicted sell out season.
