The Search
Film
Our second commissioned brand film for Rob Mills Architects brought the Collider duo of Dylan Duclos and Andrew van der Westhuyzen together to create The Search, a conceptual exploration of the inspiration behind RMA's architectural practice.
This time the setting was Sydney’s unique sandstone coastline and cliffs. The Search invokes the power of nature as a source of inspiration while offsetting the natural wilderness against the sanctuary of architectural space.
Some of the moments in the film needed to feel like they sat on the boundary between fiction and reality. To achieve these otherworldly moments, the Collider studio team created a number of augmented digital set pieces that could help form the story.
Photogrammetry data was captured on site during the shoot days and used later to add to shot plate footage or create entirely new scenes that helped the flow of the film. All the scenes in the film were shot on location in Sydney (with the exception of Rick Ricicci’s beautiful ocean footage shot in Perth, WA) or have actual elements from the locations repurposed within them.
For Andrew van der Westhuyzen and Dylan Duclos's The Search, the studio explored the latest 3D photogrammetry techniques to augment some spectacular natural scenery with the lightest touch of hyper-realism.

Natural coastal rock formations were digitally recorded and rebuilt in CG to allow for subtle alteration and augmentation to enhance the story.
Substantial amounts of time, testing and refining, gave each visual challenge the space it needed to create something engaging and beautiful.
The complex, natural aspects of Sydney's south coast were captured in beautiful detail, allowing the team to add specific features and craft each shot.

As well as being lucky to have some of the most beautiful coastline in the world to play with, the team were also fortunate to engage a crew happy to place the camera exactly where it needed to be.
